Bad car karma

We had a lovely snowstorm this past weekend. Somehow we were lucky (my upstairs neighbor and my sister and I) - our cars were dusted with just a bit of fluffy snow, whereas our next door neighbors (who we share a driveway with) and our landlords (the cars in the background of the picture) had to deal with vehicles half-buried.

It’s only fair that my ride be spared, though. Because, you see, I got into a car accident last Thursday and my poor pretty blue car got rather smashed up. (That car in the first picture is the rental.)

Luckily, nobody was hurt in the accident, and the car I rear-ended didn’t even have a scratch. But my poor car! Yes, I was the rear-ender. It’s the first accident I’ve ever gotten in! The pavement was wet, I must have been looking in my blind spot to change lanes (having just exited from one highway to another), and when I looked back in front of me, traffic was stopped (it was moving before!). I braked as hard as I could, but I just kept skidding forward. So I thought to swerve onto the shoulder. But of course, I was skidding on the wet pavement, and only succeeded in changing the angle of the car - it kept going straight into the car in front of me. It was sickening, to know that I couldn’t stop, and then to hear the crunch of my car. That’s not supposed to happen to me! I’m a good driver!

Plus I just finished paying off the car in November!

So anyway, the fate of my car is still unknown. It’s sitting at some tow truck place way out in Wellesley, waiting for an insurance person to come assess the damage. And who knows when they’ll get to that now, with the snowstorm and everything. Even if they get out to see it, my car’s probably buried in snow!

I did that two years ago…my poor Saturn just couldn’t stop at a stop sign. The person at the stop sign should have been gone by the time I got there, but she just wasn’t moving. So I was planning on her leaving, and she was still there, and luckily the sickening crunch only damaged my car, and I didn’t have to report the accident. The car I hit was a pickup truck, and due to the height of the truck, it impaled itself on my hood. We had to try pretty hard to get our cars unstuck from each other, and by the time we succeeded, my hood didn’t look like much.

I have decided to not get into any more accidents.

Just discovered your blog and I think it’s great - your cats, your photos, your views on music and performance, etc. Any new stuff on the music side? The last comments were in December. It looks like you had a lot more snow even than we did here in Dutchess county NY!
