Shopping for a new viola
I’ve been wanting to buy a new viola for a long time now, and I’m determined to do it this spring. I’ve got an appointment all set up for April 2nd at Reuning & Son in Boston, and one of my violist friends will be coming with me. I’m really excited about getting a new instrument! I wonder if I should try Shar’s instrument approval service as well. Maybe I’ll just do that if I don’t find a perfect instrument at Reuning.
I’ve had my current viola since I was twelve years old, so I haven’t done any serious instrument shopping in sixteen years! I’ve tried out some violas for fun at Bein & Fuschi and William Harris Lee in Chicago, but that was back in college, and the instruments, at least at Bein & Fuschi, were way out of my price range (they were wonderful violas - I fell in love with one or two of them). I hope I can do a good job of judging what instrument works best for me.
