American dialects

My Linguistic Profile (via achinghead.com):

  • 80% General American English
  • 5% Dixie
  • 5% Midwestern
  • 5% Upper Midwestern
  • 5% Yankee

Funny, I always thought that Midwestern was general American English! :)

I wonder which questions marked me as Dixie or Yankee. Of course, I guess it wouldn’t be surprising to pick up some Yankee-speak after living eleven years in Boston.

Jennifer! I just took that test and got the same 5% on Dixie, Midwestern and Upper Midwestern as you, but I got only 70% General American English and 15% YANKEE! Explain that! I only come out there to visit you. I expected my results to be pretty close to yours, but with perhaps a tad more Dixie and LESS Yankee! Somehow, I doubt the accuracy of this test.

Yeah, well there weren’t that many questions, so I’m sure it wasn’t that accurate. Just for fun, I guess. :)
